My Birthday Celebration/Mi Celebración de Cumpleaños @ Puerto Vallarta & Guadalajara!

This time I celebrated my birthday in two locations: La Bodeguita del Medio in Puerto Vallarta and the Tremendo Rumbón congress in Guadalajara:

After several years of not wanting to have a nightly birthday party for fear that no one would come or that they wouldn’t come and not care about me like on previous occasions, I decided to gather courage and celebrate once again at La Bodeguita del Medio. With much anticipation, I told everyone to go to La Bodeguita on Wednesday the 19th and stay there until midnight so that everyone could celebrate with me one more round trip around the sun. The invitation was so much anticipated for Mexican standards that some friends, including Checo, the other Israel and Miren, arrived a week earlier on Wednesday to celebrate me. Luckily, I was there taking my friend Sofi from Guadalajara for a Bodeguita tour so we were able to celebrate a week in advance.

Wednesday the 19th arrived, I finished my class and little by little, to my surprise, several friends arrived. Some brought gifts and then my mom, my brother and his wife arrived with a cake. The DJ played me the birthday song at the rhythm of Salsa to cut the cake, and then the group Son de Primera sang the birthday song to the rhythm of Cha cha so I could dance the waltz with the girls. It was very funny that a group of Italian sailors who were visiting Puerto Vallarta, went to La Bodeguita in uniform. And thanks to my Italian friend Francesca, they agreed to be my male dancers. The truth is that I had a great time and although I was saddened by some who didn’t go, I was happy that so many joined me. I danced a lot and had fun. Thanks to everyone. Here is a video and photos of the event.

Guadalajara

And as I mentioned before, the second part of my birthday plan was to travel to Guadalajara to attend a dance congress called Tremendo Rumbón. Although I enjoyed some very good Cuban Salsa, Zouk and Bachata workshops, there were several logistical problems with the event that made the classes and parties not to start on time. Therefore, I decided to miss part of the congress to do some sightseeing around downtown Guadalajara and visit some friends there, like Saraí, Gaby and Sujel. It was nice to enjoy Guadalajara as a tourist and it made me want to keep traveling. Here are some pictures.
