Yesterday I saw The Two Popes on Netflix and I loved it. Jonathan Price is outstanding as Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio (later Pope Francis). And Anthony Hopkins makes an impressive amazing job as Pope Benedict XVI. (Sometimes I was believing I was seeing the real Ratzinger in person). I see why Hopkins is nominated to the Oscars 2020. Both actors bring to life many different perspectives to these two interesting person. The movie points softly but obviously the current problems of the Catholic Church.
Bonus Points: In the movie, there is Tango Dance and Music, Close ups to the Sixtine Chapel and even a World Cup soccer game. You must see it! Continue reading “The Two Popes/ Los Dos Papas”
Hoy son los Oscares y Roma es favorita.
Interesante que una buena película a veces no solo nos cuenta una realidad sino que también puede trascender más allá de las salas de cine y crear hasta un impacto en todo un pais.
Independientemente de los detalles tecnicos como la excelente fotografía y ambientación de la época, Roma es una película que con un ritmo bastante más lento que el acostumbrado por Hollywood habla sobre algo que en México vemos tan seguido que no lo notamos: La servidumbre que se confunde con esclavitud, que se confunde con familia: Cleo a veces se sentía parte de la familia, y a veces se sentía esclava. Y no parecía tener solo un empleo del que puedes renunciar un día y ya. Ella tenía que ir con sus patrones hasta en sus vacaciones. Obvio hay gente de otros países que vio este tipo de vidas y no lo consideran normal, aunque al mexicano si le parezca normal.
Fuera de las pantallas de cine trascendió por todo el impacto que genero en redes sociales. Hubo de todos desde indígenas que se sintieron empoderados hasta gente que crítico que fuera actuación el hecho de que un indígena la hiciera de empleada de limpieza (Como si solo eso supieran hacer) o otros que criticaron que una mujer indígena fuera hiper retocada para la portada de una revista. (Como si no hicieran lo mismo con todas las mujeres)
Para quien dudaba que existe el clasismo y el racismo en México, Roma destapó la cloaca.

This blog totally summarizes my feelings about the new Thor 3 Trailer. Though I am excited this will be the Thor movie that everybody is going to love.
Well, I certainly underestimated things.
Like the millions of other people around the world, I watched the new Thor: Ragnarok trailer yesterday. However, I watched it just the one time in the morning and didn’t give it a second thought. As the day progressed, my social media feed was inundated with Ragnarok buzz, and by the end of the day just about every single pop culture site had published their mandatory deep dive into every second of the trailer. THR was left struggling to glean some lesson from the trailer’s record-breaking success, deducing that earning 136 million views in 24 hours (the best debut for any Disney movie trailer) probably means people….um….umm…..
Have missed Thor and Hulk since their two-year, post-Age of Ultron absence, minus Thor’s Doctor Strange cameo?
Have really missed Loki since 2013’s The Dark World?
Totally dig that someone finally thought to put Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song”…
